Money/line patterns?

Hey everybody!

I'm a complete newbie to sports betting. I'm a horseplayer, but I started playing around with the tourney -- simply because Pinny offered sports betting, and I figured "eh."

So, I've found a couple sites that offer information regarding the "handle" on each side of the line. Does anyone have opinions or theories on using this to your advantage?

IYO, bet with/against the public? What about line changes that appear to be foolish (a favorite taking most of the money, but they actually shrink the line)?

Just curious what the experienced think about this...

Thanks, and have a great week!

Best,
EW

ED, welcome to the RX...many peoples opinion on this will vary but USUALLY the public which in the case where your seeing most of the money on is wrong on many occasions so people will bet the non public side

you may see a quick lean to the non public side just before games start that is considered by some as a sharp move

I agree with Dante, but the public is right enough times that you can't make money just going against what the public does. Good luck. tulsa

The subject of patterns in book lines and other parameters makes for interesting discussion. You get enough data together and look at the right variables, and patterns do fall out. This isn't to say that you can determine the outcome with a high probability for all games. What you end up with are ranges that show a high probability of losing/winning (same thing, really) and a range for what we call a "gray area". This works well for sports where a lot of games are played (like MLB).

However, I concur with the previous posters. What you are talking about won't work consistently.
